State Minister of Women and Child Development, Pre-schools and Primary Education, Piyal Nishantha de Silva, said arrangements will be made to pay teachers of governmentregistered preschools an allowance of Rs 2,500 from June. He explained that this is only an allowance being paid in the first stage and the decision to pay Rs 2,500 made by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2014 had been suspended by the Good Governance Regime and it had been reduced to Rs 250. He also said on a request made by him, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had agreed to pay this allowance once again. The State Minister said so at a special Media briefing held on Thursday (13) at the Government Information Department.
