Teacher unions to discuss PM’s suggestion tomorrow
A suggestion by prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to resolve the teachers’ salary issue under three stages will be discussed and a decision arrived at tomorrow (13), say trade unions that met him for talks today.
Until such time, the union action will continue, says secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Services Union Mahinda Jayasinghe, which means teachers will stay away from online teaching for students further.
Ceylon Teachers’ Union secretary Joseph Stalin says they were told by Finance Ministry officials that funds could not be allocated from the next budget to fully resolve their grievances.
The PM proposed to implement the first stage of the solution next January and the remaining two a year later, Stalin says.
