Several representatives of teachers’ unions, accompanied by the Chief Incumbent of the Abhayarama Temple, Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera, called on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa for a meeting at Temple Trees yesterday (11).

Speaking to Ceylon Today the Thera said there will be another meeting with all the teachers’ union representatives today (12), to inform them of what was discussed at yesterday’s meeting. When inquired whether they had agreed to the Government’s decision on an allowance between Rs 5,000 and Rs 11,000 to be paid in installments to increase salaries, he said the Unions should be flexible to the Government’s decisions as well to get their demands for a win-win situation.
