PM convinces Port Trade Unions to pause strike
The strikes being conducted by Trade Unions attached to the Colombo Port have temporarily been called off, following successful discussions with PM Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Twenty-three (23) Trade Unions launched a ‘satyagraha’, demanding that the East Container Terminal of the Colombo Port be vested to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority instead of being handed over to India.
The discussions in this regard were conducted today (02) in Tangalle, under the patronage of the Prime Minister.
PM Rajapaksa stated that the relevant Cabinet paper, which was tabled by Minister of Ports & Shipping, Johnston Fernando, will not be implemented.
