Strict action against destruction of environment– IGP

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has decided to take immediate legal action against those who cause destruction to the environment.
Therefore, the Police request the public to immediately provide them with information on persons who engage in such acts by calling 1997 with information on felling trees, cutting down and clearing forests, sand mining, cutting of soil, reclaiming of land and other environmental damage.
In addition to these incidents, Police Headquarters request the public to provide them with information on drugs activities that are a threat to national security as well as activities which can prove to be hindrances to public peace, large-scale corruption, organised crime gangs and their activities and other special information.
Police Headquarters said that the Police is on high alert over activities that damage the environment and they intend to deploy special teams to protect the environment.
The telephone number 1997 has been introduced to facilitate obtaining of information from the public and the Special Bureau and Headquarters of the Police Intelligence Division have already received complaints, Police said.
