The recent social media reports which portrayed Army Commander, General Shavendra Silva attending a wedding, after the implementation of a wedding ban, was a false information, the Army said. In a statement, the Army said a few doctored photographs with false and fabricated information had been posted on social media, which went viral, and claimed that General Silva attended a relative’s wedding at a hotel in Colombo.

The Army denies such information and added that the social media reports published doctored photos attributed to the Commander's sister's daughter, who is still schooling. The individual responsible for posting the false news media had corrected the post and removed the story, the statement said. The Army requested the public to avoid spreading false information, which damages the reputation of Government institutions, who are devoting their time and effort to fight the pandemic. (ST)
