Minister of Industry and Commerce Wimal Weerawansa yesterday (23) said in Parliament that the Government is prepared to take stern action against those responsible for the 21April 2019, Easter Sunday terror attacks, based on the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing the bombings once the Commission concludes its sittings.
Participating in the Committee Stage debate on the Appropriation Bill 2021, Weerawansa said that action would be taken against not only the culprits but against the root cause of this issue as well.
Claiming that the madrasa/Arabic schools poison children’s minds against other religions, he said that the Government has taken steps to curb such dangerous ideologies which are threats to the society.
“It should be noted that all the Easter Sunday terrorists had attended Madrassa schools. It is clear that these schools lay the foundation for such extremists as the National Thowheed Jama’ath Leader Zaharan Hashim,” Weerawansa said.
“These Madrasas are the wombs that nurture extremism and feed poison to the minds of children who attend them. Buddhist and Hindu temples never teach children to perform suicide attacks against other religious followers. Hindu temples were never involved in the terrorism of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. But these Madrasas are not like that. These are not real schools. Even Pakistan has banned Madrasa schools.”
