The State Minister of Backward Rural Development, Domestic Animal Husbandry and Small Economics Crop Promotion Sathasivam Viyalendiran, yesterday (25), stated that he has taken all kind of steps to find sustainable solutions to the social, livelihood and infrastructure-related issues of the underprivileged rural communities.
Viyalendiran went on to claim that after he was appointed as State Minister for Rural Development, he took steps to identify the issues which hamper the development of rural communities and the ways and means to improve the economic standards of rural folk.
Addressing the housing needs of poor rural communities is one of the areas which takes priority over other fundamental needs such as electricity and road development, Viyalendiran noted.
He claimed that these issues remain in critical state in the Northern and Eastern provinces.
Viyalendiran further stated that they have started the development works from the grassroots level.
He claimed that first of all the rural community must be liberated from the loan burden and that discussions are being held with certain finance entities.
“While paying attention to these issues we have paid considerable attention to the advancement of the education sector,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said that he has paid attention to home garden projects in order to improve the economic standards of the rural community.
