State Ministry of National Security closed

The State Ministry of National Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management, which is situated at the ‘Nila Medura’ in Narahenpita, had been closed indefinitely, after 8 staff tested COVID-19 positive.
Informed sources from the Ministry stated, following PCR tests conducted on 14 officers from its Inspection Unit, seven of them had tested positive to COVID-19.
It is said the private assistant to the Additional Secretary of the Inspection Unit had also contracted the virus. In this context, the State Minister of National Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management, Chamal Rajapaksa, had met Defence Secretary Kamal Gunaratne.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that a driver attached to the State Ministry, on his way to his Baddegama house, underwent a Rapid Antigen Test last Saturday.
Afterwards, he had tested positive to COVID-19, while he is also among the eight persons who had contracted the virus. It is also said another driver had come into contact with 20 drivers attached to the Ministry till last night.
According to sources, among the persons infected are five women, while they are residents of Weliweriya, Piliyandala, Pugoda, and Pasyala. They had not been directed to COVID-19 treatment centres as of yesterday.
