SriLankan flight, first to land at new Kushinagar Airport
A special SriLankan Airlines flight from Katunayake became the first to land at the Kushinagar International Airport in India’s Uttar Pradesh that was inaugurated this morning (20).
Indian premier Narendra Modi opened the airport which will be the third international airport in the state to connect Buddhist pilgrimage sites around the world.
A Sri Lankan delegation of over 100 Buddhist monks and dignitaries including minister Namal Rajapaksa participated in the event.
The SriLankan flight also carried a 12-member entourage taking holy relics of Lord Buddha for exposition.
