Sri Lanka - Bangladesh Under-19 series: Sri Lanka complete 5-0 whitewash
Sri Lanka completed a 5-0 whitewash of the visiting Bangladesh under-19 team in the Youth ODI series yesterday, when the beat the visitors by 4 runs at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket stadium. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Sri Lanka scored 240 runs for 9 wickets in 50 overs. Right-hand opener Chamindu Wickramasinghe scored 102 runs in 123 deliveries with 10 boundaries and 3 sixes, and is the only centurion of the series.
Along with Shevon Daniel (59 in 85 deliveries; 3x4; 2x6) the pair were involved in a valuable 154 runs stand for the second wicket. Skipper Dunith Wellalage (20), Sadisha Rajapaksha (16) and Raveen de Silva (13) helped to build the innings. Md Mushfik Hasan claimed 3 wickets, while Ripon Mondol and Habib Leon claimed 2 wickets each. Bangladesh were bowled out for 236 runs in 50 overs. Opener Mahijiful Islam Robin scored 62 runs in 65 deliveries with 5 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Deputy skipper Aich Mollah scored 55 runs in 63 balls with 4 boundaries. Openers Mahijiful Islam Robin and Iftakhar Hossain Ifti gave their team a good start, putting on 67 valuable runs for the opening wicket. Robin then teamed up with Prantik Nawrose (33) in a 66-runs stand for the second wicket.
Iftakhar Hossain Ifti (32), Ariful Islam (21) and Sm Meherob Hasan (11) made useful contributions. Vinuja Ranpul and Dunith Wellalage claimed 2 wickets each, while Raveen de Silva, Sasanka Nirmal, Shevon Daniel and Wanuja Sahan claimed one wicket each. Shevon Daniel (SL) was the highest scorer of the series. He scored 222 runs in 5 matches (Ave. 55.50) with 2 half centuries. Skipper Dunith Wellalage was the leading wicket taker claiming 11 wickets for 184 runs in the series. Both players are from St. Joseph’s College Colombo.
