Sports Sri Lanka - Bangladesh Under-19 series: SL clinch series with two games to spare

Sri Lanka clinched the 5-match series 3-0 with two games to spare against the visiting Bangladesh under-19 team when they won the third Youth ODI by 3 wickets at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium yesterday (20). Winning the toss and electing to bat, Bangladesh were bowled out for 184 runs in 49.3 overs. They were in dire straits when the scoreboard read 107 runs for 8 wickets, but right-hand No. 9 batter Md Ashiqur Zaman scored a valuable unbeaten 54 runs in 73 balls with 7 boundaries to take them to a respectable score. 

The 9th wicket partnership between Md Ashiqur Zaman and Rohman Noyon (27) realized a valuable 71 runs stand in 91 deliveries. Ahosun Habib Leon (33), Naimur Rohman (27), Iftikher Hossain Ifti (25) and Aich Molla (23) helped to build their inning. Right arm medium paceman Vinuja Ranpul made his debut in the match and claimed 3 wickets for 32 runs in 7 overs. Deputy skipper Raveen de Silva claimed 3 wickets for 38 runs in 10 overs. 

The other debutant Wanuja Sahan Kumara claimed 2 wickets for 26 runs. Traveen Mathew and Dunith Wellalage claimed one wicket each. Altogether five players debuted for Sri Lanka in the third game - Ryan Fernando (S. Thomas’), Vinuja Ranpul (Nalanda), Lahiru Dawatage (St. Peter’s), Wanuja Sahan (St. Peter’s) and Harindu Jayasekara (St. Thomas). Sri Lanka reached the target in 46.4 overs when they scored 188 runs for 7 wickets. 

No.3 left hander Shevon Daniel scored a valuable unbeaten 85 runs in 115 deliveries with 7 boundaries and a six. Daniel and Pawan Pathiraja were involved in a valuable 75 runs stand for the 3rd wicket. The middle order crumbled with five batters being dismissed for 33 runs and the score a perilous 122/7. However, debutant Wanuja Sahan (38*) joined Daniel to steady the ship and take Sri Lanka over the line with a valuable unbroken 66 runs stand for the 8th wicket. Wanuja’s scored his unbeaten 38 in 53 deliveries with 2 boundaries.
