SPMC begins production of Clopidogrel
The State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) commenced the manufacturing of Clopidogrel USP 75 milligrams, a blood thinner.
The first consignment of the drug was handed over to Professor of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo, Saroj Jayasinghe.
Clopidogrel is widely used in treating patients with heart disease, peripheral arterial obstructions, and the prevention of strokes. Annually, the country spends around Rs 317 million on importing the drug, while the private sector spends around Rs 400 million.
The SPMC would provide the drug to the Medical Supplies Division at Rs 2.10
