Wildlife officers bust poaching ring in Lunugamwehera

4 individuals were arrested by Wildlife officials yesterday in a forest reserve in the Lunugamwehera area for poaching.
The suspects include a Sergeant and two soldiers attached to the Army Special Forces camp in Kuda Oya and another civilian. The suspects were arrested yesterday based on a tip-off.
At the time of arrest, the wildlife officials recovered 58kg of venison, 2.5kg of dried venison, a motorbike, a three-wheeler as well as an SUV belonging to the Sri Lanka Army.
Wildlife officials noted that 7 others involved in the racket fled the location. The arrested suspects were produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate Court last evening and they were released on sureties of Rs 200,000 each.
