Prisons Media Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said some inmates, being held at the Mahara Prison, were not enlarged on bail due to their involvement in last November’s prison unrest.

He said as certain inmates had been engaged in the unrest, they are still being held on Detention Orders. Charges have been levelled against some 120 inmates in connection with the Mahara Prison unrest.

Ekanayake added that legal action would be instituted against those involved in the unrest and those found innocent would be released.
