When it comes to delivering products that are convenient, stylish, make perfect sense and ‘just work’, there’s no company that does it like Apple does. If you’ve been paying attention to new tech that’s been taking the world by storm, you probably may have heard of the newly introduced Apple Airtags. Old news, but now mainstream Although you might think Airtags are a fresh new concept introduced by the tech giant, you might have to think again. Companies such as Tile have been offering similar products for quite some time now, with a lot of success. However, it’s clear that with Apple making an entrance, the concept of item trackers is hitting mainstream.
How does it work?
It’s pretty easy to pair your Airtags to your iPhone (just place it near your phone and voila). Then, you’ll have to register your airtags as something (backpack, car key) and attach the airtag to the said item. You’ll have plenty of stylish accessories to choose from to do that. Using a mix of Bluetooth and ultra-wide band wave technology, your iPhone can then keep track of your keys or bag using that airtag attached to it. If you ever lose your keys, all you have to do is use your phone’s Find My service to locate it through a very clever looking interface. You’ll never have to turn your house upside down looking for lost keys ever again.
Lost and found
If you ever do lose something (your backpack for instance), then all you have to do is register that lost airtag as lost in your Find My app. Once registered as lost, Apple’s Find My app can help you locate your lost backpack. If someone finds your backpack before you, they can use their phone to scan the bag’s airtag, which would reveal your contact details so they can call you and return your bag.
Can someone track me?
If privacy is a concern of yours, then I’m sure you’d be worried if someone was tracking you. Apple has thought of this too. Let’s say someone slips their airtag into your bag to track where you’ve been going. That airtag will detect that it is getting distanced from its owner’s iPhone. Your iPhone will also recognise that another person’s airtag is following you and instantly notify you that there’s an airtag nearby that’s following you and even show whose it is. Your location data is also encrypted by Apple, so if you’re worried anyone can track where you and your things are, don’t be. Of course, there’s nothing that’s ‘hacker-proof’ but it’s safe to say that finding that information won’t be easy.
Tech-based accessories; the future today
With the introduction of the Airtags, it’s clear that tech-based accessories is a trend that will continue. First, with the smartwatch, now with location trackers, and with news of augmented reality glasses being in development, our lives will undoubtedly continue to become increasingly integrated with the world of the digital. Many other fashion-focused brands have taken note of this, with some introducing accessories to go with such products, while others producing their own accessories, with varying levels of success. Would you be interested in embracing this new-frontier of accessories? Or would you stick to the traditional styles of old? Would you find the convenience of such products worth investing in?
