Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala, on Tuesday (27), ordered ex-Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) Hewa Guneratne Bashwara Senanka and its MD Rumy Jamunar, to be acquitted from the charges filed against them and be released from the case, where they had been charged with causing a loss of revenue to the Government by placing Press advertisements aimed at promoting UPFA candidates while functioning in their respective portfolios.
Chief Magistrate Ragala gave this order following submissions made to him by officers of CIABOC, who sought to withdraw the charges filed against the two suspects, while retaining their right to re-prosecute them in the future. Both Senanka and Jamunar had been charged before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court by CIABOC, for having placed Press advertisements on 12 and 13 March seven years ago to promote UPFA candidates, while serving in their posts from 11 March to 17 October 2014 and hence causing a loss of Rs 4.2 million to the Government by their actions.
