JVP politburo member Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala said, AG Dappula de Livera should institute legal action promptly against the DG of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) Dr. Siddikha Senaratne, over the comments she made to the Media recently concerning food items containing carcinogens in the country.
He charged that the SLSI DG’s recent comments had flouted the provisions contained in the National Food Security Act No. 6 of 1980, Consumer Protection Act No. 9 of 2003 and the Act related to SL Customs.
Watagala alleged that officials of the Health Protection Unit and the Import and Export Control Department should also be held accountable for their actions over the SLSI DG’s remarks.
The JVP member also charged that the President, IGP, DG Health Services, DG of SL Customs, DG of the SLSI, head of the CAA and the Director of the Food Control Administrative Unit should be named as respondents in this regard.
He added that they had also submitted a complaint to the HRCSL regarding Dr. Senaratne’s comments through its Socialist Youth Movement.
