News SLN recovers missing Indian fisher’s body

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) rescue teams engaged in search and rescue operations yesterday (20) morning recovered the body of the missing Indian fisherman from the poaching vessel which sank northwest of the Kovilan Lighthouse in Sri Lankan waters on Monday (18), SLN said. The body was transferred to the Kankesanthurai Harbour by an SLN craft. 

The inquest on the deceased was carried yesterday afternoon by Kayts Additional Magistrate on being informed by the Kayts Police. Jaffna Judicial Medical Officer and Representatives of the Consulate General Office of India in Jaffna were also present during the proceedings. 

Further, the two Indian fishermen earlier rescued by the SLN in relation to the incident were summoned by the Kayts Police to identify the deceased. Subsequent to the inquest, the body was transferred to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for onward legal proceedings on the directives of the Additional Magistrate.
