SLINEX-20 maritime exercise in full swing
The eighth edition of annual Indian Navy (IN) – Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) bilateral maritime exercise SLINEX-20, which began on 18 October, is continuing, the SLN Operations Room at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo, told Ceylon Today yesterday (21).
Meanwhile, the Indian High Commission in Colombo, on their website yesterday said that the SLN was represented by SLN ships Sayura (Offshore Patrol Vessel) and Gajabahu (Training Ship) led by the Flag Officer of the Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Bandara Jayathilaka.
In addition, Indian Navy Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and Chetak helicopter embarked onboard the IN ships and the Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft will also be participating.
SLINEX-20 aims to enhance inter-operability, improve mutual understanding and exchange best practices and procedures for multi-faceted maritime operations between both the Navies. Surface and anti-air exercises including weapon firing, seamanship evolutions, manoeuvres and cross-deck flying operations will be held during the exercise.
The exercise is being conducted in a non-contact ‘at-sea-only’ format in the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic.
