Pointing out that the President will not take any decision unfavourable to the country; Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said the SLFP would not allow State property being sold to foreign countries or privatised.
Highlighting that the Government’s objective was to address its shortcomings and take the Government forward by resolving them through dialogue and consensus, he also said that some Western countries were attempting to destabilise the country.
He assured that they will not allow a crisis to arise in the country and destabilise the environment that has been created.
The Minister was responding to a question raised by journalists at a function held at Angunukolapelessa. He said that many people were talking about the Port City issue these days and some allegations have been levelled saying that the Government was trying to sell the land, including the Port City to China.
“We do not think that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa or Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will take decisions that are unfavourable to the country. If there is a problem regarding the Port City, we can discuss and resolve it with the Government. However, some Western conspirators are trying to destabilise our country and Government,” he noted.
Speaking further he said if harm is to befall the country, the SLFP will oppose it and he also stated that they will not allow anyone to gain political power by spreading false propaganda and manipulating the people.
