A Special Committee headed by Senior Vice President of the SLFP Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has been appointed and will review the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday bombings. The official view of the SLFP regarding the report is due to be announced today (25), said Senior Vice President of SLFP, Prof. Rohana Luxman Piyadasa.
The Central Committee of the SLFP convened yesterday (24) under the patronage of SLFP Chairman, Maithripala Sirisena and the committee had been appointed during the meeting.
The Executive Committee of the SLFP is scheduled to meet today and General Secretary of the party, State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, SLFP Parliamentarians and all electoral organisers are scheduled to meet at a hotel in Colombo at 5:00 p.m. today.
Meanwhile, Montague Sarachchandra, a senior member of the SLFP, has sent a letter to the Secretary to the State Ministry of Primary Health Care, Epidemics, and COVID Disease Control regarding this event. He has pointed out that more than 200 persons are expected to attend, including MPs, representatives of other organisations and all SLFP electoral organisers.
The letter states that people from all parts of the country will attend the event and that it was a violation of regulations in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country. He has also pointed out that there is a high risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus by holding this kind of meeting with the participation of large number of guests in a star class hotel in Colombo, especially when the Government has even informed that only 50 guests could attend a wedding ceremony.
