SLC to arrange for quick return of women’s team from Zimbabwe
Sri Lanka Cricket is making arrangements for the quick return of the women’s national team from Zimbabwe, where the World Cup qualifiers had to be abandoned due to Covid fears.
SLC’s chief executive officer Ashley de Silva said six players and an official in all have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Several countries, including Sri Lanka, have imposed travel bans from southern African countries, where the more deadlier Omicron variant of the virus had been detected.
With the qualifiers now being cancelled, the Sri Lankan women have failed to qualify for the WC.
Bangladesh, Pakistan and the West Indies advance to join Australia, England, India, South Africa and hosts New Zealand for the tournament that begins on 04 March 2022.
