Local SL Railway unions to launch strike tomorrow

The trade unions of the locomotive engine operators and train guards of the Sri Lanka Railway engine have decided to stage a protest tomorrow (17), thereby bringing all operations to a halt.

Accordingly, all trains scheduled to run tomorrow will not be in operation, said the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Station Masters' Union (SLSMU), Kasun Chamara.

Furthermore, Secretary of Locomotive Engine Operators' Union, Indika Dodangoda,  stated that tomorrow's trains may be further delayed or canceled due to the involvement of railway employees in the COVID-19 vaccination drive due to take place tomorrow at 08.00 am.

He noted that the Deputy General Manager of Railways had instructed all railway employees to report to Campbell Park, Borella to receive their jabs against COVID-19.
