SL Navy takes delivery of ex-US Coastguard cutter
The Sri Lanka Navy has formally taken delivery of the ex-US Coastguard cutter, USCGC Douglas Munro, at the US Coastguard Base Seattle in Washington.
Douglas Munro measures 115m in length, capable of attaining a maximum speed of 29 knots and endurance of 14000 NM at cruising speed.
She has been designed for 187 of crew and is equipped with state of the art weapons and machinery.
The Sri Lanka Navy says it will deploy this vessel in wide-ranging operations that include conservation of marine resources and search and rescue of naval and fishing communities in distress.
Its designated crew is expected to undergo training and carry out necessary restoration to the vessel over the next seven months.
Douglas Munro is scheduled to sail home port in 2022.
The US Coastguard has previously provided two ships to the Sri Lanka Navy.
