Highlighting that Sri Lanka was a major provider of professional as well as manpower services to Qatar, State Minister for Money, Capital Markets, and State Enterprise Reforms Ajith Nivard Cabraal said that the Government was looking at enhancing this sector.
“Sri Lanka has been an important provider of professional as well as manpower services to Qatar. And that is something we want to enhance,” he told reporters in Qatar.
He said that Sri Lanka was ready to provide additional professional and manpower services for the upcoming Qatar World Cup.
During his visit to Qatar, as a part of a regional tour, he invited Qatari investors to use Sri Lanka for their foreign direct investments, pointing out that the country had established financing rings to provide good returns to investors.
According to him, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka is providing a 100 per cent protection for investors to attract foreign direct investments.
“Sri Lanka is on track to becoming a lot more vibrant as an economy in the next few years. The opportunities for investors who come in now are enormous,” he said.
Highlighting that Sri Lanka would see an economic growth of 5.5 per cent this year, he said that the country was keen to develop its existing relations with Qatar, which could also serve as its gateway to the region.
Highlighting that Sri Lankan investors too, were now looking at broadening their businesses, he said that “There are many Sri Lankan companies which have now reached fairly high levels of activity. They have become billion dollar companies and have ventured out to other parts of the world.”
He said that he would like to see partnerships between Sri Lanka and Qatari investors for such programmes, in both countries.
