Sri Lanka-Israel Solidarity Movement (SL-ISM) President Nelson Edirisinghe, in a statement issued yesterday, condemned the current rocket attacks on Israeli civilians by Hamas, launched from Gaza, using Palestinian civilians as human shields. This has led to the deaths of 35 civilians including women, children and the elderly at the time of writing, he said. Edirisinghe in his statement further said that from a historical perspective, the sufferings of Israel are not something new.
“But history has also taught us that through such sufferings and persecutions Israel has always triumphed,” he said. “As such, we are certain that Israel will triumph this time too,” he said. Edirisinghe further said that like Israel, terrorism is not something new to Sri Lanka. For nearly 40 years, the island suffered at the hands of Fascist-LTTE terrorism, he said. And, more recently, Sri Lanka suffered at the hands of Islamist terrorists who were responsible for ‘Bloody Easter Sunday,’ the SL-ISM President said.
