SL Customs seize vehicles worth Rs. 550 lakhs

The Customs Risk Management Unit apprehended 12 cars worth Rs. 550 lakhs which were illegally imported into the country on 23 December 2020. The vehicles are currently being held at the Orugodawatte Customs Warehouse.
These vehicles were imported from Singapore in three containers, guised as generator parts.
Customs spokesman Sunil Jayaratne said that the vehicles were imported using a fake name of an embassy official. One suspect has been remanded till the 20th of this month after being arrested and produced before the court.
Further investigations are being conducted into the matter by the Officials of Sri Lanka Customs.
