The SJB yesterday (19) urged the Government to amend the Colombo Port City Economic Commission (CPCEC) Bill to enable the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) to monitor the proposed Commission.
Addressing the Media at the Opposition Leader’s Office, SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella said that the Government should amend the said Bill prohibiting money laundering within the Port City as well.
“According to the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill, which has been presented to Parliament at the moment, this proposed commission doesn’t have accountability to Parliament. It doesn’t have to submit annual reports to Parliament. This should be changed. It is important to have Provisions which empower the COPE and COPA to summon the Port City Economic Commission to avoid scams,” he noted.
