SJB vows to prioritise education quality

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) pledged to prioritise the quality of education over everything when it establishes a government in the future.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said so, while handing over shoes to schoolchildren in Madduvil, Chavakachcheri on 12 January.
Premadasa said the future of a country depends on the quality of education and, therefore commitment to uplift the education system should be a priority of all governments.
“There are children in this country who study in small halls with thatched roofs. This tragedy should be ended immediately. The future of a country rests with the children and it is the responsibility of the authorities to provide them with the opportunity to pursue education in a more conducive manner. Increasing the quality of education is one of the top priorities of the SJB. All possible measures will be taken to achieve this objective,” added Premadasa.
Premadasa said he sympathised with people who claim that he is engaged in welfare politics.
“I would never hesitate to do what I can for the welfare of children who are studying extremely hard, without even a pair of shoes,” he said.
