SJB MPs visit A'pura prison, confirm allegations against Ratwatte
SJB MPs Mano Ganesan, Kavinda Jayawardena and Rohana Bandara visited the Anuradhapura prison today (18), to inquire into the recent allegations made against former State Minister of Prisons, Lohan Ratwatte.
Following his visit, MP Mano Ganesan confirmed that the allegations were in fact true, explaining that Ratwatte had entered the prison drunk, armed with a pistol, and had later threatened to shoot the Tamil inmates.
"The inmates told us that it is because of these officers that the gun did not go off. Had the gun gone off, they would have spewed stories claiming that the inmates took the gun and shot themselves, as they were LTTE suspects", the MP said, thanking the prison officials present at the time.
Despite there not being a CCTV camera system within the premises of the prison, as notified by the prison officials, MP Kavinda Jayawardena assured that the inmates confirmed the details of Ratwatte's unruly conduct.
Confirming the accuracy of all reports made thus far by the media in this regard, Jayawardena called for an independent inquiry to be conducted into the incident.
MP Rohana Bandara further accused certain parties of trying to manipulate inmates, in an attempt to deny reports that the former State Minister of Prisons had acted in such a reckless manner.
