SJB has underhand deals with Rajapaksas – Akila Viraj

It is not the UNP that has underhand deals with the Rajapaksas but the Samagi Jana Balawegaya led by Sajith Premadasa who conspired to split the UNP and create another group to diminish the victory of the UNP, alleged UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
He told the Media on 31 July at UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, that losing members of a party was a huge loss and that it can affect the victory they are pursuing.
He said that Premadasa’s move to build another alliance by moving away from the UNP is not ethical and that it has given great opportunities to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna to gain more votes.
“There are many baseless allegations being made from various stages, claiming that the UNP is having deals with the Rajapaksas. But if you notice, it is not we who are having deals with them but Premadasa. We gave him the power to build an alliance and establish his own nomination board. But in the end, they stabbed us in the back,” he further alleged.
However, Kariyawasam said the UNP will remain the same even though members leave the Party for personal advantage. “But we are strong enough to face the Election and other consequences,” he noted.
