Six women engaged in online prostitution apprehended

The Western Province Intelligence Division has taken into custody six women engaged in prostitution through web accounts online. They have uploaded their naked and half-naked live videos seeking customers.
Mobile phone numbers have also been given. In addition, these websites show photographs of young girls and women of various ages who were available. It was through these sites that the culprits have been located.
An advance is paid ‘online’ and the chosen woman is reserved. The OIC of the Intelligence Division of the Western Province and other officers had followed- up the case and taken the women into custody.
As of now, six women have been arrested and handed over to the Police divisions for further investigations. Two women from Mount Lavinia, two from Kottawa and two from the Borella Police Division have been taken into custody. The Intelligence Division said a number of such ‘online sex’ websites are found on the internet and women were engaged in prostitution.
A team of police officers including Officer-In-Charge of the Western Province Intelligence Division Chief Inspector of Police, K. S. Prematillaka on instructions issued by Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakone is carrying out further investigations.
