Six petitions filed challenging 20A

A total of six petitions were filed before the Supreme Court challenging the 20th Amendment to the Constitution Bill today (23).
The petitions were filed by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), Attorney-at-Law Indika Gallage, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, the Center for Policy Alternatives's founder Executive Director, Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, Anil Kariyawasam and Secretary of the Sri Lanka Transparency Front, Nagananda Kodituwakku.
The petitioners allege that certain provisions of the 20th Amendment violate a number of fundamental rights and other provisions guaranteed by the present Constitution.
The Attorney-General and several others have been named as respondents of the petitions.
