Six-month grace to pay power bills

The Government has decided to provide a six-month grace period, to those who are in the areas under isolations for more than 14 days, to pay their electricity bills.
This relief will be applied to all domestic, commercial and industrial electricity consumers in such areas.
In addition, the Cabinet has granted approval to provide the opportunity to film theatres that are registered with the National Film Corporation, to settle electricity bills from the month of March to December 2020 in 12 equal instalments from the date of the relevant bill.
The Cabinet also approved the provision of an opportunity for the inns, that are registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, to settle electricity and water bills which had piled up from 1 March 2020 to 28 February 2021.
Addressing the Weekly Cabinet Media briefing yesterday (19) at Department of Government Information, Co- Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that they had approved the provisions considering the proposals made by the Ministers of Electricity and Tourism.
The Ministers have proposed such provisions considering the electricity consumers affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic condition.
