Special Police operation to prevent third COVID-19 wave during Avurudu season
Police are conducting special operations to reduce the spread of COVID-19 during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
Police have been monitoring the situation and surveillance was conducted to identify if the public was following health regulations.
DIG Rohana said investigations revealed that some individuals do not wear face masks or follow social distancing rules in public places. He added that some passengers, drivers and conductors in public transport do not follow health guidelines while travelling.
The IGP has issued a circular to officers in charge of stations and all senior Police Officials to take immediate action against those who do not follow quarantine rules and regulations.
Police Officers will be deployed in civil clothing to identify any person not following quarantine rules and regulations and will take action against violators.
Army Commander General Shavendra Silva urged the public to strictly adhere to health guidelines during the Sinhala and Hindu New Year. He added that if health guidelines aren’t followed the work done in the past months to reduce the spread of COVID-19 will be lost.
