Fairly light showers may occur in the Sabaragamuwa and Western Provinces and the Galle and Matara Districts, according to Meteorology Department.
Senior Meteorologist Mohammed Saliheen yesterday (18) predicted that showers or thundershowers may occur in the evening or night hours in certain places of the Northern and Eastern provinces and the Anuradhapura District.
Showers or thundershowers may occur in the evening or night hours in the seas from Kankesanthurai extending to Batticaloa via Trincomalee, he said. He added that the wind velocity is expected to be from 30 to 40 kilometres per hour (kmph) in the deep and shallow seas surrounding the island from Westerly direction towards Southwesterly direction.
Saliheen noted that wind velocity is expected to be above 50 to 60 kilometres per hour (kmph) in the deep and shallow seas from Matara extending to Pottuvil via Hambantota and during such occasions those seas will remain severely turbulent.
The fishermen in those regions have been asked to refrain from going to sea during such situations, he said.
Meanwhile, in other seas surrounding the island certain areas will be fairly rough, Saliheen added.
