Shares gain to one-month high

The Colombo Stock Exchange closed the last week of July on Friday (31) on a high note, as the benchmark index closed at a near-one-month high, almost at the same level it was at the start of July.

The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) closed the week on Friday (31) at 5,124.26 points, up 1.16 per cent or 58.96 points compared to its start on Monday (27), its highest since o1 July, while the more liquid S&P SL20 closed at 2,163.22 points, gaining 1.17 per cent or 25.33 points compared to last week’s closings.

However, both indexes closed the month on a negative note compared to its start on 01 July. The ASPI slipped 0.46 per cent or 24.15 points to close the month compared to its start, while the S&P SL20 crashed 3.3 per cent or minus 74.79 points.

On Monday (27), the ASPI gained 0.79 per cent (39.82 points) to close at 5,105.12 points compared to its previous day’s close, its highest since 02 July, while the S&P SL20 gained 0.75 per cent (16.28 points) to close at 2,178.17 points.

On Tuesday (28), as the ASPI slipped 0.11 per cent (5.70 points) to close at 5,099.42 points compared to its previous day’s close, while the S&P SL20 slipped 0.31 per cent (6.74 points) to close at 2,171.43 points.

On Wednesday (29), the ASPI slipped 0.11 per cent to 5,094.00 points compared to its previous day’s close, while the S&P SL 20 Index slipped 0.38 per cent to 2,163.09 points.

On Thursday (30) as ASPI slipped 0.14 per cent (6.94 points) to close at 5,087.06 points compared to its previous day’s close, while the S&P SL20 slipped 0.23 per cent (5.05 points) to close at 2,158.04 points.
