Shares end week in red

The Colombo Stock Exchange closed the week on a negative note as the benchmark index slipped on Friday (23) on a relatively high turnover with continued foreign exits from the Bourse.

The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) slipped 0.05 per cent (2.95 points) to close at 5,768.94 points. However, the more liquid S&P SL20 gained 0.13 per cent (2.99points) to close at 2,297.88 points.

The daily turnover at the CSE stood at Rs 1.74 billion, lower than the Rs 2.2 billion recorded the previous market day.

More than 104.9 million shares changed hands during 17,811 trades. 

Shares of 247 companies were traded, of which 100 emerged as losers as against 76 winners.

Foreigners were net sellers for the thirteenth consecutive session.

Net foreign outflow during the day amounted to Rs 4 million, as foreigners sold shares worth Rs 354 million as against purchases worth Rs 350 million. 

The top ten gainers during the day were Industrial Asphalt, Tess Agro (non-voting), Nawaloka, Renuka City Hotels, Resus Energy, Union Chemicals, Beuwela Resorts, Colombo Land, TAL Lanka and Jetwing Symphony.

Top ten losers were Mercantile Shipping, Renuka Foods (non-voting), Mullers, Samson International, Mackwoods Energy, Agstar, Lanka Realty, Printcare, Renuka Capital and United Motors.
