Sexual exploitation of a minor : Maldivian national identified as former State Minister of Finance
The Maldivian suspect who was arrested and remanded today (05) in connection with the procuration and sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl has been identified as Mohamed Ashmalee, Maldives' former State Minister of finance.
Ashmalee was remanded till 16 July today, along with the manager of a hotel who had aided the exploitation of the minor by providing lodging facilities, on the orders of Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama.
Furthermore, the owner of the website that was used to advertise the girl, and the financial controller of the website who were arrested yesterday (04), have also been remanded till 19 July.
A total of 32 persons have been arrested as of today (05), including the victim's mother, and the Deputy Chairman of the Mihintale Pradeshiya Sabha.
Earlier this month, Mount Lavinia Police arrested a 35-year-old suspect for the offences of procuring and trafficking of the 15-year-old girl
The victim was sold online to third parties for a period of 3 months, for prices ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs. 30,000. The suspect was placed in remand custody after being produced at the Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court on 8 June.
