Teacher shortage at Galenbindunuwewa MV
A letter has been handed over to the Ministry of Education requesting a Mathematics teacher for the Galenbindunuwewa Maha Vidyalaya following a protest by parents on 18 September.
Assistant Director of Education and Administration, A.B. Joseph, noted that around 150 students are studying in the school, but only 14 teachers were available. Currently, the school has no teachers for Mathematics and Buddhism subjects.
Following the request, a Mathematics teacher was expected to take over from 21 September, he added. Joseph noted that for last few months, there was a shortage of teachers in several schools due to some being transferred, a few were on maternity leave, while some retired.
“Currently we are discussing with the authorities and hope to fill all the vacancies by 2021,” he said.
