Severe lightning, heavy rain likely
An ‘amber’ advisory for severe lightning and heavy rain has been issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, effective until 6.00 am tomorrow (29).
It warns of thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning and heavy rain more than 100 mm at several places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Southern, Northwestern and Uva provinces and in the Mannar district.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The Centre requests the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning.
Meanwhile, the Met Department forecasts showers or thundershowers over most parts of the island after 1.00 pm tomorrow.
Heavy showers of more than 100 mm may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern and Uva provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers may occur in the Northern, Eastern and Southern Provinces in the morning too.
