Senura and Bimandee excel at trials

Youngsters Senura Silva and Bimandee Bandara performed outstandingly at both trials held to pick a team for the Asian TT Championship scheduled from 29 September to 9 October in Doha, Qatar.

The trials were conducted by Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka (TTASL) and held at the S. Thomas’ College Gymnasium Mt. Lavinia. 16 paddlers (8 male and 8 female) participated at the trials.

15-year-old Senura Silva of Ananda College Colombo was unbeaten in all 13 matches in which he participated. Senura is the recipient of a Crysbro Sponsorship arranged by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL).

Chameera Ginige of Sri Jayawardenapura University won 9 out of 13 matches, losing twice to young Senura. Milinda Lakshita won 8 out of 13 matches losing twice to both Senura and Chameera.

16-year-old Bimandee Bandara of Hillwood College Kandy won 13 out of 14 matches. She lost to the experienced Ishara Madurangi in the first trial, but got the better of her in the second. Bimandee (like Senura) is also a recipient of the Crysbro Sponsorship arranged by NOCSL. Ishara Madurangi the former National champion from Sri Lanka Ports Authority won 8 out of 14 matches.
