Second Reading of Budget 2022 passed
The Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill 2022 was passed yesterday (22) in Parliament with a majority of 93 votes. The Appropriation Bill 2022 received 153 votes in favour, while 60 MPs voted against the Bill. The SJB, the JJB and the ITAK voted against the Bill.
However, the Opposition MPs who voted in favour of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, A.A.S.M. Raheem, Faizal Cassim, H.M.M. Harees, Ishak Rahuman and Naseer Ahmed, voted in favour of the Bill.
MPs Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera and Diana Gamage also voted in favour of the Bill. Eleven MPs including Minister Gamini Lokuge, SLPP MPs Tiran Alles, Vidura Wickramanayake, Samanpriya Herath and Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, ITAK MPs Shanakiyan Rasamanickam and M.A. Sumanthiran, TMTK MP C.V. Wigneswaran and SJB MP M.S. Thowfeek and Mano Ganesan were absent during voting.
The vote took place after Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella requested a division. The Bill was presented on 12 November by Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The Second Reading on the Bill was held from 13 November till yesterday (22). The Committee Stage of the Bill will start from today (23) onwards.
