The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) launched a search on Sunday (17) for a person who is said to have accepted a stock of drugs at the Athurugiriya Expressway Exit which was seized inside a luxury bus at Kosgoda.
‘Latiya’ who is said to be an underworld leader, Angoda Lokka’s chief henchman, had sent the consignment.
Based on information revealed during interrogation of the bus driver who was detained for seven days together with the bus where the drugs were found, spilled the beans.
During interrogation, the driver said ‘Latiya’ had spoken to him from India and told him to transport the stock of drugs along the Expressway and come to Athurugiriya. He had been told to leave the Expressway from the Athurugiriya Exit and an individual would come in a vehicle to take the drugs.
Meanwhile, the driver said he transported the drugs on the promise that once the drugs were handed over safely, he would be given ownership of the bus and had even made a vow at the Seenigama Dewala in this regard.
If the stock of drugs were handed over without a hitch, ‘Latiya’ had promised that he would ensure the bus would be given to him. He told Police that he was also guaranteed another Rs 200,000.
Further investigations are being carried out under the instructions of Acting Director of CCD, ASP Neville De Silva.
