SCLs from Rs 26 to Rs 360 a kg imposed on imported items

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as Finance Minister, as a foreign reserves protection measure, has imposed the special commodity levy (SCL) ranging from a minimum of Rs 26 a kilo to Rs 360 a kg on six imported commodities effective six months from Tuesday (19 January).

In this connection, the Finance Ministry notice dated Monday (18 January), but uploaded only on the following day Tuesday on its website, has levied an SCL of Rs 26 per kg on coriander imports, an SCL of Rs 52 a kg on grounded coriander imports, an SCL of Rs 102 per kg on turmeric imports, an SCL of Rs 200 per kg on cheese imports,   an SCL of Rs 325 a kg on black gram imports and an SCL of Rs 360 a kg on grounded turmeric imports.
