Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery to resume operations
The Ministry of Energy will restart operations at full capacity at the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery on 08 December.
Secretary to the Ministry, K. D. R. Olga said the Ministry has received sufficient foreign exchange to purchase crude oil.
Earlier, Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila said the oil refinery would be shut down for around 50 days due to a lack of foreign exchange reserves in Sri Lanka.
The Government is aiming to establish a 500 million US dollar credit line with India in order to purchase petroleum and replenish inventories, which plummeted to 2.27 billion USD at the end of October.
