BY THAMEENAH RAZEEK
The University Grants Commission has instructed the administration of University of Ruhunato halt the academic activities in University premises following the rise in the number of students who have tested positive for COVID19, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said yesterday (4).
When asked why the University administration and the management is arbitrarily taking decisions amidst a pandemic, Dr. Pathirana noted that they are aware of the rising COVID-19 positive cases in the premises and the Government has taken all the steps to provide health care facilities to the students who were tested positive for COVID19.
Addressing the weekly cabinet briefing at Department of Government Information, Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said that the current situation is subtle and everyone should understand that the situation can be different in an instant. “The current issues that have arisen due to the pandemic should be addressed in a practical way,” he noted. When asked how the University administration can proceed with their duties opposing the health authorities’ orders, Dr. Pathirana said that the instructions on the closure of the State universities were released recently.
