Local Over Rs 2,000M spent to provide relief to Colombo District residents affected by COVID-19

The government has provided a sum of Rs. 2,476 million to provide relief to the residents of the Colombo District who have been affected due to COVID-19, and so far, 455,076 people have been provided with the allowance of Rs. 5,000.

Colombo District Secretary Pradeep Yasaratne stated this at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department on Tuesday (24).

The District Secretary said that 13 Police divisions in the Colombo District have been isolated, including six flats, and 8,486 families have been provided with essential items at a cost of Rs. 86 million.

The distribution of relief bags to these people for the second time has commenced on Monday (23), the District Secretary added.

He also said that appeals have been filed regarding not receiving these reliefs, adding that it is sufficient to call the Grama Niladhari, Divisional Secretary, District Secretary or the Rural Development Committee for such matters.
