Rosy Senanayake calls SL Mrs World incident an "ugly act"
Shortly after the crowning Pushpika de Silva as Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. World 2021, Mrs. World 2020 Caroline Jurie revealed that Pushpika de Silva was a divorced woman and is not be eligible to compete.
She was crowned in the presence of Shiranthi Rajapaksa, former Mrs. World Rosy Senanayake and Chandimal Jayasinghe last night (05) at Nelum Pokuna.
To find out the truth behind this controversial incident, Mawbima contacted former Mrs. World Rosy Senanayake.
Rosy Senanayake revealed that after all the guests and organizers including her had left the venue, Caroline Jurie had removed Pushpika de Silva's crown and declared the runner-up Ashya Basnayake the winner.
"This is all done after we left the event. I saw it on Facebook. It happened after I crowned her and left for home. This is not something that can be approved at all. I have never seen such an unfortunate situation," she said.
Is Pushpika de Silva not eligible to contest according to the rules of the match?
"There is no problem. Although she has filed for divorce, she is not legally divorced. Filing for divorce and being divorced are not the same. Once a divorce case is filed, the court gives the couple time to reconcile. Therefore, they can unite again. Hence, there is no issue for Pushpika de Silva to participate in this competition"
Meanwhile, Rosy Senanayake said that if there was a problem with Pushpika's participation, there was enough time to protest.
"Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa was here with me along with Mrs. Jalani Premadasa. The behavior displayed after we all left is unpleasant. Disgusting. I have never seen women behave like this on any stage. The board of judges makes an honorable decision. Changing that decision is as if slapping the judges" the former Mrs. World said.
She also commented on crowning Pushpika de Silva being Mrs. World 2021.
"I was not a part of the panel, but I watched it throughout. I think Pushpika is the woman who should win. The decision made by the board of judges is correct".
